Description

Over the last two decades, there has been increased interest in integrating human-centric design approaches, such as design thinking and user experience design, with systems engineering and business processes.

In this upcoming talk, Prof Jackson and Prof Wood will share their experience and insights into this integration, which we refer to as Systems Design Innovation.

Prof Jackson will explore the basics of systems design thinking and its tools through its application in a variety of interdisciplinary student design projects with real challenges and stakeholders. These case studies, which range from consumer product design to infrastructure systems design, demonstrate both the flexibility and the scalability of the process.

Following Prof Jackson’s exploration, Prof Wood will discuss Design Innovation in the context of people, processes, methods, and principles. Exemplar innovation cases will be provided from the the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)-Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) International Design Centre(IDC), including aviation and aerospace projects in rocket technology, distributed-power aircraft, and drone technology.
